XBMC rolls off the tongue nicely, but I understand where they are coming from. Everytime I recommended using XBMC to people, they said "but I don't have/want an Xbox, why would I use it?" This new name change will make that a non-issue.

You're missing the part where the traffic jam essentially acted as a "buffer" for the spike strips. These people were rear-ended by the woman being chased after police officers made them (the two now-incapacitated men) stop.
