I can tell you that our 1.5 year old loves Howl's Moving Castle. I think it strikes a great balance of excitement and whimsical-iness. He's not particularly fond of Totoro but also enjoys Ponyo. Probably won't show him Princess Mononoke for a while though..... ;)
