Okay you lost me when you tried to explain how 'mixed identity politics work'. I am a white presenting, mixed race woman.

I don;t know. I disagree. The reason being is that I know for myself that it doesn't matter to my privilege how I see myself. It's how others perceive and then treat me. I am seen as white as a general rule, I am treated as white. While I understand the difference between white and 'light-skinned', the privilege I…
I honestly don't know. I just know that I personally get read as white. That's a fact. In Maya Rudolphs case, I know she gets read as white a lot of the time due to the fact that I had to tell a lot of the people I know that she was black and they were surprised to hear it.
I agree with you there too. I just think in this example, actually, I know I had to straight up tell some people I know that she is black. And they were surprised. Sigh, people.
With all due respect (and I say this as a white presenting mixed race woman), Maya Rudolph does benefit from a certain amount of white privilege. It's not that she isn't black, obviously she is, but it's not exactly fair to compare her with Ellen Cleghorne.
What?! LINK! :)
Every doggy daycare should do this just as a matter of course. How awesome would that be for all involved?
I have, yes, but I would wager an awful lot of people who don't hang out online haven't. Good for someone going out and telling the rest of the real world about it.
I really hope things are getting better too. I'm glad to hear that at least in your experience things are improving. :)
Listen I explained why I do what I do, if you disagree, so be it.
Yeah, there are other reasons she quit, she comes from an NHL family, so the pressure to perform from her dad was far more intense I think than most kids have to deal with. This was I think, mostly just a complicating factor, but I'm glad she's playing again too. It's good for her to get back. She loves the sport, but…
I agree. I would argue that if coaches hate it, it's more because it results in pointless minutes. Yes, it leaves players open to injury, but hockey is a very dangerous sport even during routine plays.
Yer awesome, but try to remeber the other side. My partner gave up the sport after being asked to try out for provincials when she was younger. She's gay and from her experience, she said it was a big deal when she was younger havign not come out yet.
Honestly? I looove hockey. I like fighting - IF and only if, it's one of those rare times where things boil over and people can't help it. Hockey is an aggressive sport, that's what makes it awesome. This fight is okay with me. It should be treated as a big deal though and should be rare. All the involved players…
Dude. EVERY one of us knows that. I can't help this girl. I can't help the insane number of girls this and other things happen to every day. I can't obsess over that fact. It will make me insane.
Fer Christ sakes Oreos are not as addictive as cocaine. This study found that rats will go for oreos over rice cakes to the same degree that they choose cocaine over saline.
I cannot believe that it is easier to get a bunch of humans to knit sweaters for penguins than it is to get us to stop pissing oil all over them in the first place.
I had to sleep on it to be sure, but I can now say with confidence that, yes, Professor Moon Waffles III is the best cat name I have ever heard. That's too much awesome right there.
