That's the problem, though. Lord and Miller probably wanted to do something different and fun and meta, but Kadan and Kennedy just want a Star Wars movie. These things are basically products, which is why Lord and Miller were never a good choice. You want a product? You hire the J.J's and Trevorow's of the world.

I'm guessing it's just PR. Maybe he does want to retire but it's probably the studio involved in his new film that is behind the announcement. That's the only way this makes sense to me.

Ah, I see. It's Mexican Spanish for muscular. I was very confused.

Don't forget The Spectacular Now. He's insufferable in that one.

Lovely. I'll take both to go.

He borders on Spielberg plagiarism, to be honest. He seems to be aware of this, though.

Are you saying Chloe Grace Moretz can act? Because she's even worse.

This reads like hyperbole. I don't think he should be criticized for making films about what he knows, but he's definitely almost exclusively interested in white heterosexual males. Nothing wrong with that, but that's a fact.

She was recently in Under The Skin. Few movie stars ever get to have a masterpiece like that in their filmography; she can have some dumb fun for a bit, as far as I'm concerned.

Weirdly enough, Sandler already got great reviews at Cannes this year for a Noah Baumbach film.

    Exactly.

I'm extremely late to the party but this just came out in Mexico. While I agree that it would've been too dark for mainstream audiences, the whole third act was so predictable I kinda wish the film had gone there. It was a great moment, though. Best thing in the movie.

Capturing the mundane and a "good story" are not mutually exclusive. You can have both. Jeanne Dielman and The Turin Horse are prime examples of that.

Never trust the reviews and first impressions coming out of Cannes, though. Usually the films that get a mixed or muted response end up being the most interesting ones to me (Cosmopolis, Personal Shopper, Staying Vertical, etc.).

Wait, what? How is it not a comedy?

Prometheus had one thing going for it: it was harmless. This one actually damages the franchise and undermines the original.

Agreed. Not even the Star Wars prequels and The Matrix sequels managed to undermine the original films as much as this one. Very disappointing, specially coming from Ridley Scott himself. Alien is, in my opinion, the only great film he's ever made; he should've known better.

    It's not.

    Perfect.

You take that back! Crimson Peak is great. Ok, maybe not great, but what works works wonderfully. Even in the weak moments you can feel Del Toro's passion for his craft.
