Does Katy Perry try to be edgy? She seems to me to be going for some kind of sexy cartoon vibe, like the result of Betty Boop fucking Sailor Moon while on a sugar rush.

To be fair, this music video could actually have an impact on young people. I know the fabulous gay kid I used to be would've loved it and felt like it was actually saying something.

It's so frustrating hearing people describe Woodley as a wannabe Jennifer Lawrence. She has been nothing short of great in anything I've seen her in (even that cancer romcom film she did).

Agreed. Whenever I felt the show was losing me there was a fantastic close up of Kidman or Woodley that pulled me back in. They really did elevate the material. Hopefully the material does them justice in later episodes.

Or, you know, because the film is based on a book about an Irish soldier.

Somehow calling Ida a "fairly charming if muted little film" feels very dismissive. That film is a full-blown masterpiece. A fascinating study on faith, identity and the weight of history — specifically the horrors of war — both on those who lived it and their descendants.

And in that other movie, you know, the one where he played a man that did that thing and said some stuff and then that other thing happened and then the credits rolled.

Honest question: Had you felt that your vote mattered would you have gone for Hillary?

I don't love it, but Shakespeare in Love has a very underrated screenplay and is a better film in my opinion.

    Curious tidbit: It's a masterpiece.

I actually think Titanic is better directed, edited, photographed, scored, has better costume and production design, sound editing and mixing, and has in Kate Winslet a much better performance.

I actually like it more than anything in La La Land. Although in a sane world Sing Street would have three nominations and would win.

Nevertheless, I hope Fire at Sea wins. One of my favourite documentaries of all time.

There's smart ways to enhance reality, like Captain Phillips did. Then there's ways to do it like Argo. Worst screenplay ever to win an oscar in my opinion.

That final revenge is so petty and dumb that I refuse to believe we are actually meant to take it as an act of revenge. I rather not speculate as to why that happened and pretend that the ending is more about Amy Adams having a moment of disilliusionment / realization.

    Directed by Tom Hooper.

Or Emmanuelle Riva for Amour… or Marion Cotillard for Rust and Bone… or Rachel Weizs for Deep Blue Sea… or even Naomi Watts for The Impossible.

    +1

I was more offended by the execution than the actual idea. I mean, I had Mean Girls flashbacks and laughed out loud at how bad it was even though Franco was sitting a couple of rows in front of me.

I think Amat Escalante more than earned his place in the Official Selection with Heli. I was surprised by how much I liked it. Truly one of the best Mexican films of the last decade.
