We both use laptops at home, as does my wife. Her laptop regularly does a sleep when she tells it to power off. The only thing worse than the computer being unusable because it is doing something on start up is hers being dead every time she needs to use it.

I was talking with my dad this week. I think the frustrating thing for us infrequent home users with poor internet connections is the answer has to be while the computer is on. That means it is pretty much unusable for at least half an hour often a few hours every time we turn it on.
