I hope your suggestions are considered. It's been very nice to not be consigned to the grays as I was before. I hate the language used in this article—"wading". Most of the people who ended up gray didn't deserve to be treated like riff raff. I don't think the solution to trolls is to treat people who aren't

It messes with your personal life. It does. I think people forget we are real, actual human beings. I work nights and for a few weeks, I was getting up with little or no sleep, b/c I knew I had to check my comments in my morning posts to deal with this guy. But it's not just the fact that I had to see shit like that.

Double agree. It took me ages to become a 'starred commenter' in the old system - a day I celebrated on Facebook and took screenshots of, I was so happy. Then all these new changes came into being, and I couldn't even be bothered to keep up with how the commenting worked anymore - it got too confusing.

Pending

Absolutely. After awhile, with the old system, I just dropped off.

Indeed. Regardless of how many stars I managed to get, and how I was obviously not a troll, I stayed grey until it was done away with. I am sad that the same thing is probably going to happen again. It's really discouraging to chime in when you aren't going to get a real chance to contribute to a discussion- but hey,

Right there with you in this. In the old system I never got a star on Jalopnik despite having had multiple responses appear in AOTD and AOTW. Whether I'm a cool kid or not doesn't matter in deciding if I'm a troll or not.

Amen to that. I know I'll be commenting a lot less (and therefore coming here a lot less) now that I know that no one will ever be seeing my comments once again.

Agreed. I've been here for a long time and was once a starred commenter under a different account (pre-facebook login, I just didn't want to link FB to my gawker stuff so that login was dead) and it was so arbitrary, sometimes you got starred if you got a COTD, sometimes you didn't. It really felt like a junior-high

I agree that users with 'stars' should be somehow notched in as an automatic 'approved to post' rule. I have probably 500 or so stars, around there or maybe more, but that's a great idea for approved users because one would imagine that a regular starred poster, at a certain level, has proved we're not

But I feel like that stuff will still happen - just along with the rest of us plebs in the grey area. Which is going to make no one ever go there to approve of comments, keeping everyone there forever. I was not a fan of the system before, and it is very disheartening to learn it is coming back instead of some actual

I agree. Once a commenter has been around for a while they're no longer truly anonymous - it's more like they have a pseudonym. There should be a system for the admins to allow commenters to be trusted to post immediately, because if they did anything dodgy (such as post a gif like the ones that have caused the

i think the problem with the last time they did this is that none of the writers took the time to go through comments and approve people.

Agreed. They need a clear procedure for getting out of the grays. I posted for months (sometimes sporadically), I always posted relatively good quality posts (I check my spelling and try to stay on topic), and I sometimes even managed to get lots of recommends. I don't mind doing my time, but I need to know I'm

I know. I don't care if you're a gun-nut who doesn't agree with anyone here. As long as you're not a troll, asshole, spambot, or racist/sexist, you shouldn't be in the greys.

Jessica, I am so proud of you for standing up for your site, your authors and your commenting community.

The old comment system made me feel like commenting was pointless. im pretty excited to have just learned I no longer need an account here because commenting is pointless again.

I'm all for bringing back the greys, with one condition:

Sincere thanks to the tech and product people — both New Yorkers and Hungarians — for working tirelessly and staying up until the wee hours to deal with this. Köszönöm.

When will you be looking at more commenters to approve? I've been a dedicated member of the site (as have many others) but have never been approved despite many upvotes and all the like. I think if you switch back to this system, you have to start actively looking for new commenters to star or you have to REGULARLY

Even speaking as someone who's played that game at least half a dozen times, I think you're grasping at straws more than a little bit. They pulled concepts from a bunch of different existing comics; I'm positive they didn't go "Hey, take that one concept from that comic, then that one from that comic... let's put all
