Am I the only old whose mind immediately went to the Christy Turlington / Linda Evangelista quote?
So, my brother and I are signing the papers to buy a house TOMORROW!!! We have been living in our childhood home since our dad went into residential care at the end of last year (he has dementia and we were his carers). I used to joke with my brother when he was a little kid that he was so brilliant that he’d better…
I like you. Come sit next to me!
Condoms Rose! Condoms!
She’s just resting!
I fucking hate this shit, especially since it’s not as common among my fellow Olds. It is so jarring to be walking down the street (I don’t know how it is other places but this definitely happens in New York) and hear Asians still with foreign accents saying “nigga,” and of course Puerto Ricans, no matter how pale,…
Avril Lavigne is back and definitely not dead.
Please, someone’s gotta say to Kanye, Hey Kanye, just because you put on a MAGA hat, you’re not subverting its message or using it for your own devices or changing what it represents, or whatever the fuck you think you’re doing.
Our own eviction party! Our landlord was evicting us from the two top apartments (the only ones in the building) after we complained to the city that the heat wasn’t working in the winter and the stairs were buckling. We hadn’t paid any security deposits. People were going up on the roof and shitting down the chimney.…
Spring/Summer, 1986. I am a junior. My best friends parents are out of town. We schedule a party, the word spreads. We have a band scheduled (the core members of this band would later on become actual recording artists - you have heard of them). We had to prepare “Jen’s” house.
My other post was embarrassing and real-life, so I separated the one that’s emotional and possibly-supernatural.
Were we in the same in the same household? I was 5-7 when my mom dated an abusive.....man (I use the term only biologically.) My father made an executive decision to change joint custody to full custody and I lived with him ever since. While they were still married, they had been separated for 2 or 3 years. My dad…
Follow up: just now, thinking about this story, I went to look at the registry of deeds for the town I grew up in. They’ve got everything digitized now, so I was able to look up the closing paperwork for the house. There, my parents both signed, as did a notary, but the witness section?
I was in the laundry room of my apartment building when a 5 year old sees me and says “Why you so fat?” It took everything I had to not respond “eating little kids.”
This one isn’t mine, but my mom’s. She told it to me a few years ago, when my husband and I bought our house; it’s the story of how my parents got my childhood home.
“Daddy, is today the weekend?”
A few months ago my youngest (who was then 2) looked at me as I helped him get dressed & said, “Daddy, you are my best friend.” I was stunned and I’ll admit I got a little teary eyed as I said, “thanks bud.” He immediately folded his arms and turned away with an angry look and said, “Daddy, you are NOT my best friend.”
This is not my story, but my best friend’s, and I’m sharing with his blessing. (Re-post from last year.)
