Don’t attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. They can barely hire decent writers here (Tom McP *very* much excepted) why would you expect them to have decent web development talent?

A brand new GX470 and brand GX550 would handle about the same. You are comparing a lifted 20 year old truck to a stock brand new truck. Not a great comparison. But I don’t see a GX550 being $50k+ better than a 470. To each his own.

As a stopgap, I blocked the entire domain; an error message is easier to deal with than a page load, but it’s costing Jalopnik readers. I don’t know if that’s the goal or not at this point. Maybe someone’s angling for a cheaper buyout option.
