To me, at his core (and, I think, at the core of The Sandman), Dream is the narrative function, our need as sentient, mortal, remembering beings to crystallize events into meaning.  It is part of us that goes beyond just the sleeping state. That's the thing about Hob (especially in his later appearances): he still living because he's still appreciating being alive - even though he's seen it all, he can still find the precious immediacy of experience.

As gutwrenching and genuinely frightening as I find the cereal issues, I've always been kind of bored with the Corinthian. He really is kind of small and petty, a horror movie when he should have been humanity's inner Nemesis.

Looking back on the whole, you could say that Dream's relationship with Hob is a microcosm of the larger narrative of him facing his own flaws, and embracing his own 'humanity' - but coming into the story without foreknowledge, I'd tweak that: Nada's story is about Dream taking a hard line in protecting his own pride,

C'mon, Tom Hanks.  While fumbling with your notes in the cold open, you couldn't slip in an "Oh, fudge" in there?

It has mostly to do with speech patterns, and that there's a drawl to Ozzie that doesn't sound unnatural to 'Merican ears when it comes through an affected accent.
