Hahahahahahaahhaha. I had work bullies and I did all the things, talk to boss, talk to HR, etc. Nothing happened until I recorded them and then I got in trouble for recording them without their consent. On the bright side I was already in negotiations at my new job at that point and was able to quit shortly thereafter.

Um, HR only protects the company.  If protecting the company means getting rid of you or the person making the complaint, HR will do that in a heartbeat.

So I get two or three or four projects that all run about 40% of the time and I’m golden. Gotcha.

If you’re going to own a project car, ESPECIALLY one that is known to be temperamental, you need to make sure you have spare transportation. I love my 240SX but it has an uptime of <50%. I learned the hard way that I need a commuter vehicle too, one finicky project car does NOT successful employment make.

Yep. I had a real coward for a boss who would pimp me and my people out for tasks nowhere within the scope of my department.

Starting at 60000, but can be optioned up to 90k.

just got a $601.80 vet bill so... at least someone’s got health care on the government’s dime(?)

And so many places don't meaningfully promote internally anymore, you can't get ahead without job hopping. I've been places where maybe one internal employee has been promoted to management in the last decade.

I had to google what a “pension” was.

I was raised to believe that if you weren’t in school or at work, you were lazy. My parents (Depression-era, born and raised in poverty) never took sick leave even when they were sick. I was in the hospital as a kid, and they still went to work. They missed every school play, recital, spelling bee, science, fair,

It is the year 2020, and this is one of the dumbest comments I’ve read on the internet this year. That is a high bar to clear, and you my friend, have done it.

It was so dumb I recovered my password to make this comment.

Your screenname only adds to the hilarity.

There isn’t anything like the Slingshot. It’s too weird to live, and yet far too rare to die.

I swear this exact thing happened to a friend of mine last week. She got her review, which has to be rated “excellent” in all categories in order for her to receive the standard year-end bonus. She received all excellents save one, for which she received an “exceeds expectations” (one step below excellent). That

I think of performance reviews like salary arbitration in baseball.

All around solid advice; I want to expand on/slightly tweak one part, though:

That stock photo is hurting my woodworking feelings. If you can afford a tool that cuts wood, you can afford a two dollar speed square.

I am not an antivxxer, but I am not rushing to get the vaccine when it comes out, especially the ones that were rushed for public use by the Trump Admin. I have no problems with vaccines that went through the standard testing protocols. Of course it helps that I am not an essential worker subject to heightened

Excuse me, how much is this box of Cheerios? There was no price on the shelf.”

Re: Challenger - If you were building the same exact thing for 10 years straight, one would expect you to be pretty good at it by now.

My current place of employment is giving me free tuition (i still pay taxes and fees which is still half the bill!), but as soon as I’m done with my MBA, I’m out. They’ll give me a dinky to moderate raise for just having the MBA, but it won’t change my life in a meaningful manner. I learned a long time ago that no one
