Why do people “get spooked” by the cops?
Why do people “get spooked” by the cops?
I’m a data scientist, so I’ve put this in front of my coworkers.
Courts can already mandate breathalyzer interlocks.
With the camera I’m guilty until I can prove myself innocent
So how do you remove a drunk (or otherwise unsafe) driver from the road safely? I’ve seen too many stories about mentally incapacitated drivers getting “spooked” by the cops and having their fight-or-flight response triggered.
I don’t think the tech is quite ready yet on automated ticketing via camera, but I also suspect a large part of the reason you see “mistakes” like this is not a bad AUC but a financial incentive for algorithms to be biased towards false positives and away from false negatives.
Not that I’ve had a burned out tail light bulb for over ten years now I think about it.
You can... fight the ticket? I know I’d much rather receive a fine in the mail and schedule a court appearance on my own terms than be worried about getting pulled out of my car by a cop who didn’t like my haircut or the spelling of my name and then having to spend the weekend in jail for “resisting arrest” while…
That’s the thing, though. With BoP, it doesn’t really matter who has the best car, because they’ll just get their restrictors tightened.
Eh, I’m a traditionalist—I firmly believe that the 2CV’s place is on the track.
The i-MiEV is unironically one of my dream cars. I would specifically be looking to buy one and replace the badges with ones from its sister, the Citroën C0.
As does my 2016 5dr(!). Minis are notoriously fun and good-handling (kicking Mustang butts on the track / rally stage since 1964).
Any word on how much of that $50/hour actually goes to the driver?

Dammit, Remi’s broken quarantine.
#minicooper ready to throw down
Yeah, after making my snarky post, I fell down a Google rabbit hole. https://www.riverfronttimes.com/stlouis/great-moments-in-mexican-american-restaurant-history-casa-gallardo
I’m fortunate, I guess, in that my first and still primary association with Santander is that they were a Ferrari F1 sponsor, so I was definitely surprised, given the upscale association, that they were a subprime lender.
“Casa Gallardo” looks like it must have been an insitution! A bastion of authentic Mexican cuisine! Where was this restaurant? Los Angeles? San Antonio? El Paso?
Omg it’s the car version of this meme
