The farting in the plane story is what inspired me to take comedy writing classes at The Second City. My ‘dream’ is to do Amateur Stand-Up and my Schtick is going to be “Scientific Fart Jokes”. This story being one of them. Starting out with “men are from mars, women are from venus” style set-up and the punchline

There was a service that started out doing this. Ugly Produce, or something like that. I joined and in the beginning they did offer produce. Then they got some venture capital funding, got pressure from those guys I guess, and it was basically Maxwell Street Market after that. It was mostly packaged goods pantry

Cermak Produce near Ashland and Cermak. The took over the whole strip mall and it is a wonderful place to shop now. Plus to cater to the changing neighborhood, they have a much bigger selection of vegetarian/vegan stuff now.

Oh man. It cut off before the best part of the episode.

Oreo: Lemon

I never made it out the greys. It was one of my fond wishes. But the site dies before this wish gets fulfilled.

Any list that has Steely Dan above the Rolling Stones is bogus. Also CCR, Bob Seger (especially late 60's Seger) and Steve Miller above Springsteen. Springsteen is only rated high because of the NY/East Coast media bias. If he was from Ohio, he would be rated about as highly as Allman Brothers. And Heart in the Top

And they were close to losing in Game 5 against the Dodgers too.

Kala Namak in recipes where it is called for is almost a required ingredient. Without it you can really tell the difference. Chana Masala being the most common dish where it is used. Also most Chaat Masalas have it. I have found that things like Amchur, Anardana, Kala Namak, Shah Jeera, Asafoetida, Big Cardamom etc

Hey, you changed your Avatar?!

Sooo.... Hominy videos did you see before picking this one?

Bravo!!!

Even the video on YouTube identifies this as a RAT. That ain’t no mouse. Issa Rat.

Closest thing to the White Sox 4 straight complete games against the Angels in 2005.

I would buy this if they make a Vegetarian version from this doorstop. I have a personal limit of 20 cookbooks and I only have things that are useful for me. That means I got rid of a LOT of classic books that were mostly meat focused.

From the NYT article:

Yeah, but the method he used is not a good one. He used the methods used for Drug efficacy, which have double blind studies; to nutrition studies data which are not as easily amenable to that kind of analysis. It seems he did the same for the sugar study referenced and was called out for it.

This is why I usually discredit nutrition science studies. It is enormously difficult to set up the ‘experiment’. Double blind is pretty difficult. Plus most of the participants self report. There is too much confounding. On top of all that; the results of diet show up years later. Its not like a acid-base titration

The movement is being conducted by people outside the big media though. You will find very few members in the big media who are BDS supporters. In this day and age, you will always find some media outlet supporting pretty much any cause. But at the level of NYT or ESPN or even CNN/Fox cable outlets; which is what I

Those two are mutually exclusionary, though. PJ says he doesn’t watch Sportscenter, except rarely. He adds that he watches ESPN only for NBA. That could be simply for NBA games. I see where he is coming from. I used to watch ESPN regularly, not just Sports-center, but all the talk shows like PTI, Around the Horn etc.
