I still think the most practical solution is to decentralize the Olympics and use the already constructed venues in densely populated regions such as southwestern USA.

Granted I’ve never been to Dubai, but do they have a big recreational sports scene that could use some of these facilities in any way during the off years?

OK lets try and analyze your comment.

Who pays to maintain the facilities that will not get used for the 4 years between the games then? I don’t see how this would solve anything.

Is Olympic island any more feasible though? We build huge stadiums in large cities for the olympics and we can’t find uses for them, where would it be possible to financially maintain olympic venues year round that could also be used for other purposes? This seems like it would be even more of an economic nightmare.

It would be very interesting to see normalized rates of car theft, only considering thefts of cars that were unlocked with the keys in the car, in states where this is made illegal vs states that have no law.

The cop gives a dude a ticket for having a car running in his girlfriends driveway, he complains about the ticket, and then the cop’s boss tells him to drop dead because he complained about the ticket.

I have a lot of respect for your comment. It’s nuanced, conflicted, and very real.

It’s just funny that you could read this article and post:

Frankly, most cops (unless they’re assholes or rookies) don’t like issuing tickets.

Sorry if I was a bit rude, but this is still pretty crazy to me.

You are supposed to remove kids winter coats before putting them in car seats these days so that makes it pretty hard on a single parent who can’t warm up their car, even if you did it differently “back in the day”.

No one is talking about street parking. This story is about a person starting their car in their own driveway (Ok it was his GF’s driveway, but it makes no difference).

I get what your saying but I don’t think the reason comes into account, it just says the car can’t be running while unlocked and unattended. It doesn’t really need to specify if the purpose is warming the vehicle, to run into a store, or anything else.

My point is that we should get rid of stupid laws instead of spending our own money to satisfy these unnecessary laws.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about or what point you are trying to make.

I highly doubt you live in an area with a similar climate if you don’t know 5 people that haven’t done this exact same thing in the last week.

Frankly, most cops (unless they’re assholes or rookies) don’t like issuing tickets.

Well said. If the cops truly feel these warming up cars are such a massive public safety issue, they should have monitored the car or informed the driver so as to avoid a dangerous situation. They fully know the risk of a car being stolen and leading to a dangerous situation down the road is not legitimate, but they

The issue at hand is probable cause. A cop can’t just walk on to your property unless there is reasonable suspicion a crime is happening.
