Ignoring outliers, modern cars last longer and run more reliably than old cars.

I watched The Golden Child the other day (1986) and saw them showing $.99/gallon displayed on Gas Station signs. I remember being able to dip into IL and getting the same price in the mid 90s. Our gas prices are so artificially low it’s amazing. It’s also amazing how bad our roads and bridges are now because we’re no…
I voted NP, then the free market reaffirmed my choice - listing deleted.
I have never had a diesel car (was aware of the pumps though), and after this article, TIL there can be two different sized nozzles for the same kind of gas.
I wouldn’t say they’re horrible, but unless you live on a heavy trucking route, diesel becomes a pain to find in some metro areas, which I’m fairly confident the overlap of European car owners and eco/high MPG-minded folks predominately live.
Anecdotal but diesels last a lot longer than comparable gas engines assuming they are not boosted to the moon like dummies with “tuners” like to do.
You make them sound like horrible cars. They still beat the 1.5 turbos in practical fuel economy, and that super low rev gobs of torque is wonderful. No need to baby the throttle. The case for them is harder these days but it is by no means gone. No one is cross shopping a VW diesel with a Tesla.
I wonder if their claims only work for some weird European test cycle as well. My guess is that the EPA rating is not favorable.
Mazda never brought the Skyactiv-D over here because they never figured out how to make it meet emissions requirements. They got really close, but never quite made it. In fact, I read an article where an interviewed engineer wondered out loud how VW managed to do it. Funny thing about that...
That was my first guess as well. They either can’t quite his the numbers with a smooth power curve yet or hitting the numbers compromises the intent of the engine too much.
I wonder if it has to do with NOx emissions.
I see a stock windshield, the center console display and parts of the shell of the stock car. The headlights and taillights might be stock too. I bet if you had time you could find at least ten other parts on this that are shared with the stock car.
People would wreck them instantly. Unless someone is trained to handle that kind of power no way should they get released to the public. This is sort of what happened when the original Viper was released: tons of people with no experience with that power wrecked them almost as soon as they left the dealer lot.
“We brake for nobody”
Absolutely. Sell them with a rear sticker that says “Plaid... LOL.”
As silly as this it, it would be straightforward to make a production version, unlike other crazy-horsepower versions of car. Heck, since they’re mostly using parts from the regular Mach-E, it probably wouldn’t even be that expensive, all things considered. Maybe an extra 50K over a Mach-E GT, which is stupid-cheap…
This is me. I love my Focus ST, but hate the rest of the market’s limited options for replacement. I also hate driving trucks, but I will need something to tow a small boat and I’m actually excited about the idea of a Bronco, which is a big surprise to me. Also, my ST and the SE before it have been Toyota reliable…
That’s the real marketing coup if you can pull it off. Don’t just steal Jeep’s piece of the pie, actually expand the pie itself...steal a little bit from sedans, crossovers, etc, and none of them will see you as a major threat. It’s a low-key form of poaching. Tesla is doing it well because they have such a unique…
Calling bullshit right now. He’s filming in landscape; dead giveaway that this was a “fake” leak.
That video was the first thing I thought of with this.
