My mom sews and quilts, and made a lot of her own (cute) clothes back in the '60s. I happened across a trio of notebooks in World Market that used old '60s McCall's patterns as the front and back covers this summer and thought of her, so I picked them up as a little gift for her for Christmas.

My new neighbors. Nothing has changed from the last time I posted about them. They make so much noise and I hate them so much. My last resort is to file a noise complaint with the police the next time it's particularly bad.

It's worth reading! I haven't seen the movie, but I'm curious to see it, especially as I hear there was at least one powerful scene, and that the scene wasn't in the book. I've read three of Faber's books, and loved each one. He's a terrific and compelling writer.

Checking my Goodreads list for the year, I only ended up really loving 7 of the 51 books I read.

I'll never be over Macho Grande.

Exactly! I will happily take any and all of these assholes - for whatever reasons they choose - "acting like a slightly more decent person." It's a start!

I knew he'd been sent to a concentration camp, but until I popped over just now to see if he really was approaching 100, (he's 90), I had no idea that he was liberated from the camp in 1945 and was a recording artist on Capitol Records by 1950. Can you imagine what a bizarre and whiplash five years that must have been

I have a Hooray This Shit as of this very minute! My friend and I just got tickets (at a lower price rung, like we'd hoped, no less) to see Stevie Nicks with the Pretenders opening, on St. Patrick's Day next year! WOOHOO!

Good luck, I hope it's something easily fixed, once they figure it out.

My God. I'm so sorry. For you, for him, and for your mom.

Thanks!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I've been there over and over.

Oh, that's awesome. Well done.

I've seen a few panels posted to tumblr here and there and I love the art, too. I think you've just convinced me to reserve it from the library if they have it.

1) Insanely busy, in fact I'm only just getting here now and am totally behind on my work.
2) Well, tonight I finish the last book of my Goodreads goal for the year. And in all honesty, I've managed to achieve a few other goals this year as well.
3) Going to Florida to spend a few days with mom.

I have been thinking about that song's prescience ever since the election.

While this guy was closer to 58, he *did* have a droopy mustache, so standards were apparently preserved.

Unrelated, but I love your avatar. I love that movie.

I can vouch for the $1 cheeseburgers, they are delicious. Also, the last time I was there ordering one, the old dude running the grill asked me "you wan' mayonnaise on that, babygirl?" and I was kind of delighted by that.

Yes, they are. They're godsends to high school and college kids who don't have enough experience for anything else.
