Yes, technically it is one of the 5 branches of the US military. However, The coast guard falls under Homeland Security instead of the Department of Defense (and were under the dep. of treasury, then transportation before that)
I'm pretty sure the Coast Guard fall under Homeland Security currently, and was part of the Treasury before that.

A write-up is essentially what they got. A one day and three day suspension respectively which isn't much really. They weren't fired or anything. They probably would have been fine if they went through the proper channels and decided not to look like tools by wearing their tacticool multicam crap.
