@rixatrix: Well, if my fiance and I could afford a ring like that, we'd probably be a bit happier, since we wouldn't be quite so worried about law school debt and finding lawyer jobs after we graduate this May...

@sharkie792: Well, marriage and long term monogamy often aren't the same things to the people in them— the presence of a legal status may improve well being, as might a sense of the religious aspects of marriage, to those who are religious.

@HarpMadness: 1. They aren't all adults— look at colleges, some of the individuals are 17, and even if they are legally 18, they're still psychologically adolescents, because they're brain hasn't fully switched over from limbic to prefrontal.

@History Major: I'm hoping its just the stress of being on the road, and not anything more serious. She still seems to have tons of energy, at least!

@SarahMC: I'm a chick, but I use the same name here that I do on Reddit— often, people just assume I'm a dude when I talk about beer or dorky fantasy novels. When I talk about sex, there doesn't seem to be a noticeable assumption one way or the other.

@GGobsessed: If the press and publicity ruin the life you have before, why not take advantage of it to try and make some money? She didn't want the spotlight, but once she had it— and probably a tarnished name forever in our puritanical society— she might as well take it and run with and try to make bank.

@Cimorene: I do agree that those sorts of cases are not usually brought— most women who say yes, or even who don't say no, assume their consent was valid whether they really meant it or not.

@Cimorene: But what if she says yes, but she's still insanely drunk and generally non-responsive? How do we know that she understands what she said yes to, and that she was indeed saying yes to sex, and not just yes because yes is a word that you say when someone says "are you sure this is ok?"

The fact that anyone would even worry that efforts to protect people from assault would lead to less rambunctious holiday parties is just disgusting. Who cares it the party becomes a little less dull, if it means even one woman less is sexually assaulted or raped?

@Cimorene: I mean, I could see a guy unintentionally raping a woman who he thought had consented— but that's why we need the presence of a forceful yes, rather than the absence of a forceful no. If she's ok with making out, but doesn't realize sex is beginning to take place because she's so blitzed, it's still rape,

She looks a little like a terrifying, imposing alien here. Powerful and strong, but the lack of nipples making her seem decidedly inhuman.

@JessIsElf-ity: Ok, so I love Booberry, but I can't eat it as a cereal, just a snack! It's delicious, but too sweet for me :-(

@curiousgeorgiana: I fail at liking sugary cereals... my favorite cereal is Kashi GoLean. My mother and fiance both think it tastes like cardboard, but I loooove it. It's just sweet enough for me to handle first thing in the morning, and it keeps a satisfying crunch.

The idea that that is acceptable— to treat employees differently just because they are foreign— makes me very sad. I know it happens on an individual basis everywhere, but the idea that it is supported on a wide level gives me a super sad face.

@logruszed: Sure, the Cylons SAY they're human, but what happens when you stick two Cavil's in a room? What do they say THEN??

@Ginmar Rienne: Its amazing to me that it hasn't occurred to you that that was probably the most effective path he could see to minimizing violence.

Penelope Cruz's quote resonates with me... whenever I do hard physical activity that leads me with bruises, (like the ones I would get back when I did fencing) or cuts (I'm clumsy and fall a lot) catching a glimpse of them always makes me a little happy, like seeing a little trophy on my skin.

This is definitely a positive, but I do worry about the enforcement of it— my fear is that communities and officials will continue to turn a blind eye to the practice, since it does continue in many countries where it is illegal.

@Ginmar Rienne: I argue about a lot of things on this site. Try taking a look at posts that don't just involve violence and men, and you'll see me there, too. It's just that I hate both misogyny AND misandry.
