Funnily enough, I have actually written a full episode guide for what I think a 26 episode long good adaptation of Planetes would look like. The Von Braun stuff happens in the middle.

In my experience, the Bluray version of the Planetes anime helped with some of the swings in video quality.

Baccano is great!
