I’d love to own a piece of this fantastic instrument and I bet I’m not alone! Even a small piece- a bit of cable or the dish screen material. I wonder if it would be a viable opportunity for the NSF to raise some extra funds to sell “souvenirs” of this historic structure.

I have this marked in my calendar for a just-me night this Friday while the rest of the fam binges some episodes of The Crown S.04 and I will absolutely be high as a kite for it.

Wait, he went into a lake? Where the fuck was he gonna go? I thought he at LEAST went in the ocean where maybe it was feasible he could get away (assuming unlimited air and battery life).

The algae is greener.

Don’t we have the technology to calculate it’s origin trajectory, capture it and carry it back to where it came from? (Edit I know we don’t but this certainly would make this whole nuclear weapon things a lot less attractive.

I don’t know why, but it always struck me as odd that two of the recurring bits featured a dog palling around with another character (Rita/Mindy). They weren’t really the same, but they felt too similar, especially since neither was very good.

They have all the actors they would need to do it.

Oh, all of this is absolutely true. These things get built, and sometimes nobody looks into the costs of making sure they’re kept in good shape. But sometimes those costs are assessed and funds are allocated and then gradually appropriated ‘for other things’ by arrogant and/or corrupt politicians. So then the

Honestly, other than Pinky & The Brain, the only side bit that I’d like around is Mime Time, which was frequently funny. But Slappy was always fairly marginal, Goodfeathers is hopelessly dated, and the Buttons & Mindy and Rita bits were always bad.

Whether we like to admit it or not, sites like Aricebo are a form of infrastructure, and there’s been a longstanding issue of infrastructure getting the necessary funds to be properly maintained (or maintained at all). It’s a problem stemming from how all infrastructure operates: totally fine until you get a

2020 is trying to murder Arecibo....

What a bunch of whiny little assholes. We’ve had centuries of exclusively male leadership, even if Harris does become president life will go on. Also, if your religion tells you that ‘women voting goes against “God’s ordained order of men being the leaders”’, time to choose a new religion.

Really?

Douglas Adams handled the tired Robot rather well. We need more Marvin’s.

Wellll, sort of? The original humans were a very advanced civilization from another galaxy that had a religious schism, where a portion of them left to the Milky Way while the others stayed. The ones that stayed became energy beings and seeded their galaxy with a less genetically advanced version of themselves to act

That’s why I like how Iain Banks treats AI Minds and drones and ships. Not only are they considered “people” and citizens of The Culture, they’re often shown to be “in charge” but not oppressive to the other citizens. Simply “in charge” because they are the most qualified to be so.  Although that’s a bit of a

You’re missing the point about as much as it’s possible to by being anti-Oppressed Robots. It’s that people are actually trying to build AIs, now, for real. Even as our awareness and refusal to accept institutionalized racism grows, we’re still trying to create slaves that we think it’s OK to own because they’re not

Finally, someone built a scooter that doesn’t look like the disappointing consolation prize for people who can’t (or won’t) ride a motorcycle.
