Honestly, most of them convince themselves they did nothing wrong and probably don’t even think about it.

Holy shit.
I think guys like this look for targets can either easily discredit or feel won’t say anything. Both of these women were in their early 20's. With one woman going to the police could have caused her to lose her job or career. The other was just waitress. The cops might believe but will a prosecutor press charges?
I feel so sorry for these women.
I always wonder about these famous guys who have violent events in their past, sometimes things they did decades ago. Do they live in paranoia that their deeds will come to light, or are they so deeply narcissistic that they believe they’re truly untouchable? Maybe neither. Maybe both.
#MeToo and fourth wave feminism are incompatible with beauty pagents. Keyword: beauty.
I think the best change we can hope for is an end to pageants. I know it gets used as a platform to voice some social issues, but I don’t think there’s anyone really interested in that aspect of it—compared to what is at the forefront: the recognition of the ideal female form—what some would call “unrealistic…
Spend some time in an underresourced public school and you’ll change your tune. I spent $100s of dollars on classroom supplies during the mere 6 months I was substitute teaching. Most of my classrooms were special ed, and went through sensory items like Play-Doh faster than the school would ever supply it. I also kept…
I am here for the retroactive bashing of dumb reporter questions. Especially the Barbara Walters one with Brooke Shields.
You’re funny.
every time i see speculative information on this kind of event, it’s always from a very ableist perspective. i can be prepared for a little while without power (i live where i get both bad hurricanes and outages due to ice and snow), but not months. if/when this happens, millions will be seriously harmed and millions…
“I almost moved to NYC myself (although I wound up staying in my own city, Chicago).”
this was a fun, nuanced read. thanks!
How can we talk about the spirit of 30 Rock’s attention-seeking Jenna Maroney in real life without mentioning Alec Baldwin’s thirst-trap fraud of a real-life wife, who might as well have sprung from the 30 Rock writer’s room (cf. the episode where Jack’s girlfriend, played by Emily Mortimer, is faking her British…
Yeah, I’m not about to listen to people talked about “the orange one” and “tiny hands” for 6 years turn around and be like “Someone who’s budget for tacky statement accessories could feed a family of four just voted against raising the minimum wage, but you can’t comment on appearances!”
If you think for one fucking second that if John Hickenlooper showed up to a vote and TV interview in a leather tiger print track suit that no one would talk about it, I’ve got a bus load of bridges to sell you. The reason no one talks about male clothing in Congress in because they’re all old and boring and wear the…
I think there’s a pretty clear difference between “AOC spends too much money on clothes, typical broad.” and “Why did Sinema show up for this vote dressed as Flavor Flav?”
No. This take is right in line with the notion that all women have to support each other. If any male congressman was wearing novelty ties or bizarrely casual, loud outfits to vote bills into law we would be making fun of them. We made fun of Tucker Carlson’s bowties and trump’s suits. Sinema is here for all of the…
It seems to me that if one truly wished to end sexual abuse of minors then one would welcome Walker’s work. Pushing people with a destructive compulsion into the shadows and asking them to suppress it through sheer force of will, totally alone and without any support, seems so obviously doomed to failure. Perhaps if…
We already have incredibly harsh sentencing for stuff like child pornography, but guess what, people still do it. It’s pretty clear that treatment for this condition before a person acts on it is a net good for society.
