I would think that whoever buys this car would do so because they don’t want something with tons of examples around.

They say I’m crazy cause I wrench all the time
(Everybody say oh yeah)
(Oh yeah)
The car won’t crank, guess I’ll never know why.
Lancia's been hell for me so far

My Lancia Scorpion would do 85
Tore up its valve train, now I don’t drive...

its an entirely meh car, to me. Sort of neat in that it’s unusual and rare. Somewhat tragic in unfulfilled potential, according to the write up.

That’s not a ‘sports car’.

Not worth it. Get an MR2 if you want reliable, non-rusted mid engine shenanigans. Tons of them out there. CP

I think you'd really need to be a Lancia enthusiast to want this at any price.

David, you are going to get good and bad advice in the comment section here.

Agreed. Someone needs to spring you out of the grays. Looks fine to me. Just some minor cleaning necessary. Metallurgy back then wasn't nearly as sophisticated as it is now.

The issue is, once that face gets pitted, that oil film is no longer able to keep the two mating gear teeth from touching. So once your teeth start pitting, they begin to wear at an ever-increasing rate until CRACK! The gear loses one tooth. Then that sends a shock load to the next tooth. And then the next.

In no time,

They reminded me of the bubbles in lava rock, so that would make sense.

Exactly my thought. A poor casting will look exactly like that. I used to be a machinist and casting often had those kind of cavities. The edge of them look to sharp to be wear-related. I wouldn’t worry to much about it. It probably came like that out of the box. It isn’t ideal but it’s fine I think.

Dumb question: given that this is an old truck, built with old truck tolerances, wouldn’t the transmission be fine? Sure there’s tons of pitting, and it ain’t pretty, but it’s not like that motor puts out tons of power to begin with. I’d imagine even with all that ugliness, the engine wouldn’t have enough power to eat

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

When I drained the “oil” from the T-19 in my Ford F100 after sitting for 5 years, a green frothy mix of oil and water came out.

I did what any self-respecting person who just scored a free truck-would do. I filled it with a high-quality synth blend and never looked back. 31K miles

The holes in the cluster look too round to be wear. Could they be poor castings that caused air bubbles in the metal?

David, David, David ... this one is the last one you should be working on.

Oh I wasn't aware that we'd be viewing a sample of my everyday life.

And for a bit of nostalgia, you can get a Hot Wheels version of the family Plymouth Satellite. I've got two, and yes this thing is big and heavy.

When I want this kind of abuse I WILL GO TALK TO MY SISTER.
