How do you come to that conclusion? I can totally see that helping deflect the cover if it went head high

Just like a 1990 sport prototype race in Montreal, but in that case, it was a full, round, manhole cover that came off. It also inspired a Mythbusters episode.
I love this reply.
By your logic, since a helmet wouldn’t have saved Wilson, helmets aren’t needed.
What they lack in speed & horsepower, they completely make up for in style & class. Ol’-Skool Rules !!
There no reason not to have it just in case there are such incidents where it would actually be useful. The only reason to protest it is because you don’t like how it looks - and no one involved in actually building and racing F1 cars or ensuring driver safety should give a shit about aesthetics.
I’m betting there have actually been blood wars over the rights to secure the manholes. This was merely the result of a successful hit by the rival family upon the one chosen by the paterfamilias to maintain the Family Manhole this year.
Eh, it might have, might not have. Even if the halo or a windscreen shatters under the impact, it is still likely to redirect the projectile in question.
The mistake is probably thinking anyone in Monaco willingly does manual labor. If I'm not mistaken most of the peasantry lives outside the city in France.
Little is better than nothing.....
I saw a Mercedes on pole last night. Does it count that it was at a Gentlemen’s club?
Kind of a “duh” moment for the organizers. This race has been held here almost continuously for over 80 years, ALONG AN ESENTIALLY UNCHANGED track. The fact that this was even an issue boggles me.
looks like that cover sent his practice right down the drain.....
Kudos to the owners that allow these bits of history to return to the track, even if only in exhibition form. Race cars that were made to go fast, not sit in a hermetically sealed museum only to be looked at.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway certainly knows how to wake everybody up in the morning. “Legends Day” started off with historic race car laps, and my goodness, these things are fantastic. IMS may be known for its museum, but nothing beats seeing and hearing historic cars in action.

Alanis is usually quite good at mentioning WorldRX, but it’s easy to forget when it’s only available via Youtube in the US.
The FIA World Rallycross Championship is at Lydden Hill this weekend, and is broadcasted on Youtube at 15:00 CEST on Sunday. That is right between Monaco GP and the Indy 500, so you’ll be in front of your screens anyways. It’s recommended by Oppositelock owner Porsche9146 as well!
I think this is a rebuild, the master website has a bad picture of a smashed bimmer on it, I think it’s this car...... Crackticus Pipis Maximus if so
The car is a total rebuild! Look at the center photo on the website http://www.mendelsgarage.com/ This is a Crack Pipe with a crack in it!
