On the bright side the digital ships are cheaper than the physical ones, but I get the impression you might prefer to buy the physical ships anyway if they can’t be earned.

In this case for the exclusive content it sounds worth grabbing the switch version, if not up front then down the line when it probably gets discounted cheap as or cheaper than buying the same components separately.
