On your critique of Walken (which I agree with)… I think it was a choice? Not a choice I get or agree with, but I think he (or the director) decided that they wanted Hook to be low-key, nonchalant, understated. Almost bored.

I've always figured that a child could appreciate things on their own level — the cute rabbit stories, or whatever — and that the frame could be introduced later, with serious discussion of slavery and racism to recontextualize, when they're ready to understand/process that kind of thing. That being said, it's been a

Can we Kickstart this already?

Solid write up. I wasn't thrilled with Walken's Hook, but Williams I thought was actually pretty good. Smee was great. :)

"Comedians doing that stuff can still get wide praise, but they'll also get wide criticism."

I don't know. I've always kind of liked her. I mean, I don't always agree with her and I'm not always on her side, but I've never doubted her sincerity. She's passionate and (I'm guessing) competent, which is pretty cool.

I'd like to add that I think we're at the point where citing that certain behaviors aren't "censorship," because they're not a governmental proscription against someone's speech, sometimes obscures the fact that it's still shitty behavior. Heckling is shitty. No, it's not censorship. It's not an assault on the

It's been a while, but college was pretty generally great. How's middle school?

<looks….>

Speaking of, has it just disappeared off of Netflix Instant? I hate it when that happens!

In my experience, most libertarians have no problem with the public domain/expiration of copyright. The view you're describing — intellectual property held in perpetuity — does exist, but I don't think it's very common.

As far as I can tell, "libertarian" describes a wide variety of philosophies. There's no singular "libertarian view on copyright," and among libertarian philosophies you can find the gamut, from "there should be no copyright" to "copyright should be owned in perpetuity." Unless you mean the Libertarian political

If anyone has any questions for an actual Objectivist, fire away!

Is it weird to feel a little emotional watching this…? So many memories bound to the times I've played these games.

Consulting the Ayn Rand Lexicon informs me that "A" is the appropriate reply. In more serious matters, I *think* it was Celine (though I could be mistaken) who gave a speech that really resonated with me, when I read it many years ago — about the power to say "no." Something something "Christ went to the cross to

LOL, I don't have much of an opinion about them. I do like Twilight Sparkle, though. :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! So far I haven't fielded any questions about Objectivism, so if you're looking for something to do here on the weekend, abusing me is always an option. :) Regardless, have a fantastic weekend!

The response Cosby's gotten in Florida is just mind-blowing. I thought we were better than this culturally already. I was wrong.

This whole awful ongoing episode has… taught me a lot, I think. To be honest, I don't know if I would have credited that this kind of thing could happen on such a large scale for such a long period of time with such prominent and professional people. Except that it has.

It's been a while, but that original Zahn trilogy… I thought that was pretty great (especially Heir to the Empire).
