I don't now wether it was for the fact I'm a girl or I grew up on Anime (which have a lot of badass leading females), but I wasn't really blown away when I learned about Samus. It was more of a "oh, cool" and kept going. I was way more into it when Zero Suit was added. Because badass.

I would imagine most 6 year olds don't know that Samus is a female human being.
