I agree you should do the math. I did do the math before signing up for a Wework, and calculated that if it generated 6-8 extra billable hours per month, it was worth the money. It paid for itself immediately. Since moving in, I’ve certainly worked 10% more hours, it’s connected me with some great new clients, and

I started my own business a few months ago, and started at a Wework last month. Since joining, my best client leads, professional peers, and work ethic are better largely thanks to having a place to go. It’s not for everybody or every profession, but it’s rife with intangibles most of us forget about. Also, as

You’re confounding increases to the federal budget with the concept of a baseline methodology. It’s true that the federal government is generally increasing. It’s also true that the way the government establishes baseline budgets is based on population & inflation, and doesn’t exceed it. i’m done :)

Now, adjusting for population & inflation is definitely different than just using last year’s budget, but it’s also a far cry from “Last year the department got 100B and this year they got 105B but they really wanted 110B, so their budget was cut by 5B.” This isn’t about wants, this is a pretty simple calculation.

I understand the idea, I’m saying it’s a stupid one. Every dollar has been double, triple, and n-th taxed already because taxes occur through transactions as money cycles through the economy.

Hm, interesting! So the US Government’s standard practice is to adjust budgets for population growth & use real (vs nominal) dollars — which is actually pretty smart, as gov’t revenues & costs are also tied to both. I thought you were saying we compare them to dept-proposed budgets, which are about wants. I’m still

Researched & almost sure this isn’t true. Right now articles will compare Trump’s proposed budget vs. House, but in the end when we talk budget cuts, it’s actual numbers. Between FY2015 & 16, transportation got cut. Between 2014 & 15, Defense, Government Services, Transportation, & Education all got cut in real

What? I’m pretty sure this isn’t true. Source? Examples?

If it’s an effective way to make our tax system progressive, yes. And it is.

And the “already taxed” concept never made sense to me: everything has already been taxed. Your taxable income? It’s what’s left after you & your company both pay payroll taxes. before that? it’s whay’s left in the company till after sales tax.

Because corporate taxes are easily avoidable by moving your HQ to a mailbox abroad or reporting money as foreign profits. The higher the corporate tax rate, the more companies move abroad, the fewer taxes we bring in. It’s a dumb tax — like if we taxed tacos but not fajitas. What makes more sense? Tax people, such as

May you be forced to rely on the kindness of strangers in a moment of need, so you can realize it’s worth being a kind stranger.

I hope you are randomly selected for additional screening; that your window seat has no window; I hope they run out of chicken when you want chicken, and they run out of beef when you want beef. I hope you have to pee during takeoff, and the guy who ate a burrito gets to the lavatory first. I hope your connecting

You’re definitely the person I find myself seated behind on transcon flights. May you never get the whole can of soda, and may your overhead compartment forever be full.

wait, I guess that’s what economy plus is. dammit.

Really? I’m 6'1" and hate the headrests because they stop at the top of my neck. Maybe we just need a chihuahua section and a Newfoundland section of the plane.

I was worried I was the only tall person on this whole thread!

As a somewhat tall person, I value not having my knees crunched far above my ability to recline, so this isn’t actually an efficient solution.

I got an inflatable hot tub last year and it was a brilliant plan. Under $400 on Amazon and I just took it down for the summer last week. No, there’s no magical jet massages (the bubbles are kinda lame in it) but was fantastic for me. You fill it with a hose, which makes filling/emptying a little more work, but no
