I think it’s a publicity stunt. They’ve gotten way more attention on this trailer than they would have with a more straight music choice. They got me to watch it thanks to your article, and this game wasn’t even really on my radar.  And odd music choices aside, the trailer actually looks really cool.

Maybe they thought people would think it’s an adaptation of the 1998 Ian McKellen film?

I wouldn’t read too much into social media vitriol from the right wing. Rage Against The Machine, of all bands, draws the same fire when they say anything leftist.  It doesn’t represent the entire fan base, just a small, loud, and super-butthurt part of it.
