So why don’t they have adjustable boards at the end that can be calibrated each day to product the same exact length in each lane. Is that really beyond the wit of man? Surely it’s a basic engineering task?

A simple one. How about a device that limbs like a memory stick to a TV, but makes a wifi connection to a NAS drive with photos. I can then use the tv as a digital photo frame.
