My sister and I have been doing the online dating thing.
My sister and I have been doing the online dating thing.
Well I could have phrased it better and said she doesn't fit what big media (i'm including magazines, TV, and movies) wants to present. But they are the decision makers. Until it hurts their bottom line or they really get shit for it (whichever comes first) they have no interest in showing the wide spectrum of black…
Well there is no one proper representation of ALL of us. Anyone who says otherwise has issues. We are not monolithic and one black woman (me, you, Beyonce) is not the worldwide representative of black women everywhere. Unfortunately, Beyonce in most cases is seen to be and that's just not true.
You'll be waiting a long time.
Interesting. When black women bring up the inequalities that are faced by darker skinned black women, you get labeled the "Black Women's Appearance Control Board" or the usual "Angry Black Woman".
Yeah, I'd like to know too! I already have a list of people who I boycott because of the things they've said about black women.
Me too. It seems like most on here are focusing on the wrong thing.
Not sure I agree. What are the girls that he is talking about? They are certainly not talented. They are just "pretty" and even that is debatable.
Yes, exactly.
Yes, exactly. Instead of using Denzel's comments as a springboard to discuss why a successful hollywood actor would feel the need to tell his daughter this, this article becomes whatever the hell that is up there.
You're welcome. These comments have been floated about black women-centric sites for the past couple of days so I'd seen the entire quote.
Posted this on the main screen, but I thought I reply here is as well. If you read what he said entirely it puts the 'little pretty girls' comment in context. Here it is:
Leave it to jezebel to completely leave out the entire quote. Here is Denzel's entire quote: “You are black and you’re a woman — and you’re dark-skinned at that — so you have to be a quadruple-triple threat and you know, a lot of actors are not actual actors, they are movie people or whatever it is. I said, you have…
She has been added to the list of all the other idiots who consider degrading black women (especially dark-skinned black women) this country's new national past time. D.L Hughley (not that I really cared for him to begin with) was added last week.
Thank you. She could walk onto stage in a burlap sack for all I care.
Yeah, my first view of Brit television was on PBS. My dad was a huge Dr. Who fan. I'm partial to Red Dwarf myself.
