I paid $1,460 a month - from 8am-6pm 5x a week at Camelot. I’m pretty shitty at math but that’s approximately 200 hours a month (give or take). That’s $7.30 an hour.

We are a decidedly middle class, two income household. He teaches high school. I’m an accountant. We pay about the same amount for daycare as they do in this story. If we really had “eff u” money, one of us could stay home. Childcare costs are exorbitant in our country.
What I take from this story is how scary it is that by going private, schools and other type of institutions can get away with discrimination and deviating from the overall educational system objectives.
I was just open enrolling today and I got to get a good laugh again about how you are only allowed $5,000 per year per couple for a Dependent Care FSA. That’s completely laughable. In my opinion, it should be double that, and that is just a start at what would help.
Lol @ elite. I know where this preschool is located. It’s right by that middle school Thomas Starr King and Gelson’s. I live right by there (in the Los Feliz neighborhood) and did not realize the neighborhood was considered “ultra hip.” Silverlake, East Hollywood, and Los Feliz are going through major homeless people…
The most important thing is that we have a coven.
THANK YOU. THANK. YOU. You said it. Some of us took a career hit to stay home with our babies for the first couple of years, because $2k per month for daycare was impossible. In a 2-income household, taking gigs on the side. Then Obama throws out the idea of subsidized child care, and the GOP clowns screamed…
The best I can say is this. When you get monied entitled parents together, forget it. Everything you can imagine about non-vaccinated vegan kids who have three nannies is true. I have seen celeb parents too fucked up to recognize thier kids. Parents who refuse to acknowledge their children’s diagnoses because they…
I think you mak a lot of good points. I do, however, think that including info about her partying with parents is relavent to the story. I have sent kids through two different daycares & it is bananas that an administrator would open the facility on a weekend to accomodate a bunch of parents getting tanked with the…
I believe the issue with the party bus is the lack of professionalism inherent in such a scheme, which contrasts nicely with the oblique references to professionalism in her emails/rants.
It’s actually not that much. In fact, I pay over $19,000 in maryland. It’s high for my area, but even the low end (like the kind of places where they leave your kid in a swing for hours at a time) charge at least $1000 per month. This is the problem with parenting and child care and telling women on welfare to just…
I mean, she certainly sounds like she's creating a cult religion, at the very least.
If a salesperson were to email me with those kinds of grammatical mistakes, I wouldn’t give them a second thought. People let this person be in charge of childcare?
Amen - and thank you for listing NAEYC as a resource. You know what I want to know about? I want to know who’s advocating for higher pay for child care workers. I want to give them my money. I’m familiar only with National Women’s Law Center.
Jezebel should do one of those things where they ask for horror stories. This time with a daycare theme. If they do, I hope you will dish.
I would absolutely join a wine coven.
Time after time, it has been proven that a) childcare/preschool cannot be for profit, b) the person in charge must be a fully qualified Early Childhood Educator. Would you allow your child to attend an elementary school where the principle has no classroom experience, no training in education, but a master’s degree in…
She refers to it as a “wine coven.”
That is as far as I got and then I hung my head in shame because I spend more than that on childcare
