I thought it was funny they were making fun of people about the comics while blatantly ripping off a TV show. It was a lazy jab without any follow through. They literally just lifted the scene directly.

Meanwhile they're just ripping off a scene from Breaking Bad and calling it a homage because some of the guys worked on that show. That's some real "clever" writing and directing there. Took me out of the show by how blatant it was.
