Its main problem I think is it is supposed to be a sequel to a movie but decides its not actually a sequel to anything . It was a mistake from the beginning to give the reins of this trilogy to multiple people without an overarching story already being established. If I bite into an apple and an orange is actually

This is true. It didn’t connect because it challenged the viewer. The movie basically subverted every expectation the audience had. And it was awesome, and it sent a powerful message in large part by doing so.

Seriously. It’s like so many of them get their opinions from 8 hour “WHY ____ SUCKS” Youtube videos.

Well it looks like one more person will be endlessly harassed by Star Wars fanboys who just wanted to see Luke murder people.

Most everyone here is pretty left

Bigotry.

I don’t know if there has to be a rule that every trans character has to be played by a trans person. It would be nice if even one trans actor was cast in one of these roles, in a big budget movie.

Trans people exist, Kryptonians don’t.

I think this author makes good points that trans men should be played ideally by trans men but if not, then by cis men (and the same for women, obviously).

Alright I’d say think of this way: how many trans people are getting to play cis roles? Personally the issue of veristic embodiment is not one I am concerned with to the same extent as other trans people I know, given not only that actors, well, act, but also for more complicated beliefs about sexual fluidity, etc.

I think calling it a “breakthrough” hits upon something important: breakthroughs only happen once. Maybe Hillary Swank’s performance was a breakthrough, but casting cis actors as trans characters isn’t anymore, it’s just business as usual, and frankly is behind the times. The next stage is making trans actors cast as

The character (a real person) was assigned the gender of female at birth. At some point in his life (maybe his entire life; the article’s a little unclear) he started identifying as male. As he’s the only one whose view on this matters, he’s therefore a man, and was for as long as he identified as such.

Hold on there, angry old man who is angry. Let’s not swing too far the other direction and assume that none of this is anything to be concerned about. Just because the general public doesn’t mainly care about stuff like this doesn’t mean they shouldn’t.

“whiny spoiled adult babies”

My understanding of the situation is this:

I think you have to try. I’m not sure how many trans actors there are, but it’s probably a safe bet they have trouble finding roles (not trans roles - any role). So if you have a trans character and you give it to a cis actor, it’s kind of a middle finger to struggling trans actors out there.

She also dated Sean Penn.

Trans people did not laud them or give them those awards, Hollywood did— the same people that are now hiring Scarlett

Scarlett seems to have a very no-fucks-to-give persona on the various controversial issues of the day, whether it be this, or Woody Allen, or the Marchesa dress, or Ghost in the Shell, etc. I do wonder if there’s going to end up being less and less interest in the Black Widow movie as a lot of those who were most
