We're already setting aside cash for our daughters's weddings. We want them to have whatever they want, though I admit we're hoping they choose smaller wedding + down payment on a house instead of huge grandiose blowout.

I agree, re too much emphasis on weddings and not enough on marriages. I've known people so fixated on getting to be A Bride that they don't even care who the guy is, and so fixated on having Their Special Day that they trample all over everyone.
