It's extremely well documented that EVERYONE took those rumors seriously, as hundreds of now-released government documents from the period attest.

I have read biographies, yes. I've read their own words. I've read evidence of their Nazi sympathies—and possible spying—collected by two governments. Have you?
An excellent analogy, and yes, I believe you're right. It's not really smart or clever to offend people; it's easy to offend people. It's making them feel something *other* than offense that's the hard part.
My (English) husband has just opined that this film is essentially the post-Ritchie-divorce Madonna's big FU to England/English people/the English peerage (Guy Ritchie's stepfather is a peer) and a big cheer for the Poor Sweet Wronged American Woman, now that she's abandoned her fake accent and gone back to the…
Yep, me too. I love her. Our beliefs may be different but I think she's an incredible role model, and it saddens me that it seems because of those beliefs she sometimes doesn't get the credit she deserves.
Yep, absolutely. Oh, and anyone who claims they *were* in fact Nazi sympathizers—because, you know, that's true—is obviously a foul villain of some kind, and Wallis Simpson is an admirable, wonderful woman to whom other women should look for guidance. Way to be an apologist, Madge.
I will! I sent her a link to the thread so she can see it. :-) They're really good books, aren't they? I love Kat.
That would assume she actually A) makes the connection between her beliefs and her behavior; and/or B) actually understands and *believes* those beliefs and what they mean, rather than them being self-serving window dressing.
Cleveland Amory told a story of a dinner he attended with the Duke and Duchess, and during a lull in the conversation everyone heard the Duke explaining to the young lady next to him that "the Jews had Europe in a death-grip, and all Hitler tried to do was ease that grip."
Good Lord, she's claiming in the film that Wallis and Edward were *not* Nazi sympathizers? FFS.
Happy birthday!
Yes, and I can see that when someone says it to your face. But this is like overhearing someone across the room make a comment and then starting to rant and yell about it, you know? I don't like ferrets. I get that some people do. That doesn't offend me. I love Harry Potter, too. Some people don't. That doesn't offend…
How do you know? I heard Pegasus was crying all day and wouldn't even eat any dinner. And it's all because of Damon Lindelof.
Nooo! It wasn't Kat, Kat and I are friends! She is indeed awesome, and she would never throw a grade-school hissy like that, lol. :-) Totally, totally not Kat, I swear. She thought the other person's reaction was as ridiculous as I did (and as the rest of our friends did).
I once tweeted a joke about my dislike of ferrets, and called them "rodents." On being corrected I said yes, I know they're not technically rodents, but to me they are because I dislike them, so it amuses me to call them that.
New from the Jame Gumb Collection...
Man, Sex is so selfish. Always hanging around ready to make the babies, but takes off the minute the kid is born.
I bet they'll especially like it when I inform them I'm taking the money I would have used to tip them and giving it to Planned Parenthood instead.
I would heart you again for that one. They are the Best Cookies In The World; I hoard them like gold. My MIL one year took a box of my stash to give to a very sweet friend of hers, who was at the time about eighty. hard of hearing, and mildly senile.
Add me/my friends to the list. I don't think I know anyone who turns it around!
