This comment is really all that needed to be said about this.

There’s a world of difference between reading a good book by an author who happens to be a woman of color, telling people about that book and recommending it to others; and publicly proclaiming your intention to avoid books by straight white men to score enlightenment points.

Talk about the books those women wrote. What you enjoyed about them. What you disliked about them. Recommend their books to other people. Start book clubs that feature them.

She's essentially creating the conditions (the gradual disappearance of said tribe through erasure, that she claims to be fighting against) by centering her own non-African body. Europeans are something else.

She needs to raise awareness for African wildlife next!

It bums the fuck out of me that you know there are people who would feel uncomfortable by some of the original images but are all too enthusiastic about the appropriations.
