Yup. Mine does this too (but he rarely meows). I posted upthread that he actually sounds a lot like a squirrel. He might be a squirrel, actually.

My current kitty just chirps. He actually sounds exactly like squirrels do when they chirp. Weirdo.

It’s totally common! Kitty (my and boyfriend’s tiny asshole roommate) mainly goes through the motions, opening her mouth, sometimes even swatting at our arms with claws extended, so ready to be vicious, and she just squeaks. It’s a little crackly squeak, like she just absolutely cannot deal with the burden of meowing

The non-purrers take a little getting used to! I’ve had a couple of those too. They do let you know when they’re pleased (or stressed), but reading ‘em takes a bit more work than with purrers.

My mom has a cat and for the first couple of years she had no idea how to retract her claws because as a kitten my parents’ dogs adopted her, and dogs don’t do that. It wasn’t till my parents got new kittens that it was like a lightbulb went off in her head saying .... hey! I’m a cat!

You’re a bear ffs. Just charge right in and grab her. Who’s going to stop you?

She’s a BEAUTY!

Also in Squee news there’s a new baby Red Panda at the Detroit Zoo. Her name is Tofu and I am currently in the process of devising the best way to steal her so I can keep her.

“It’s what drives us to keep them alive until they can start to fend for themselves.”

But that’s ok. I’m dead and I won’t need my body in hell anyway.

Great. Why raise it first? I bet they’d pay extra to shoot them while they’re still babies.

As mammals, we are programmed to find all baby mammals cute. We find the large head to small body, large eyes, and certain chubbiness/roundness that all baby mammals share adorable. It’s what drives us to keep them alive until they can start to fend for themselves. We don’t find the same cuteness in non mammals, which

If babies looked like this thing below, the human race will die out in one generation. The cuteness is to bond them to us.

There is. It has something to do with why we take care of them. (Someone can probably do a MUCH better job, but short answer)

So I’m going to be Debbie Downer here, but during the whole lion-killing dentist thing, several people mentioned that pretty much any lion cub in Africa being raised by people instead of its mother is being raised to be killed in a “canned” hunt.

Every movie I’ve ever seen says that your genetic engineering will absolutely fail and they’ll eat you and then they’ll eat all of us.

You can always get a cat. It’s the exact same thing except smaller so it won’t eat you.

I can’t believe Katy Perry is beating young Simba with that terrible, terrible song that should have bombed. How obscene!
