But then you have to factor in the payments..4 people can be paying at the same time. Granted the self checkout machines take forever with actual money, but with a card it's pretty quick. I would think payments is a long part of the checking out.

Actually the majority of the problem is in the production and end-of-life for these cars. Making the batteries and filling landfills with the batteries is the problem...I'll quote significantly more from the link this time, so that should help right?

What if this is the kind of car where the engine stays on? It would be cool to see a small battery hybrid with a turbo, and the electric engine exists only so you never notice any turbo lag. Battery recharges on breaking sort of situation.
