Personally, I’d rather die in a puppy stampede.

What I meant, and I can’t correct it, is the guy isn’t going to die.
Yes, I know, there’s an entire tumblr of these types of reports. In my younger days, I dealt with a lot of crap, even though I was married. If I just wanted a drink after work, forget it, some dude was bound to invade my space, even though I was wearing a ring.
You gotta consider that for women, this can be the really scary point. This is how we talk to a LOT of people, particularly in situations that have potential to escalate. You’ve met a stranger, you don’t know how he’s going to react — follow you out? start shouting? start stalking you? start being violent? Start…
Women have been killed over some guy’s hurt feelings. I was punched when I didn’t give some rando my phone number.
Too real to be funny.
i wish....
Women a usually polite when rejecting someone to avoid anger/violence.
Your experience, as well as another commenter in the thread, just goes to show that women need to proceed with extra caution. If it comes to this point, do it over the phone if possible, or in a public place at the very least. If someone is gonna argue over the phone, who knows what they’d escalate to in person?
An OKCupid guy made me hang up on him before we even met (which we never did.) I tried to politely end the call, he kept talking. I said “I have to go now” and he kept talking. Just hanging up was my only choice. I felt cruel at the time, but in retrospect he was 100% the asshole* and I dodged a bullet by not agreeing…
That ship sailed a long time ago, dude. There are already surveillance devices in public places. The only difference is his is right there in plain view, at eye level, for you to see.
We're already in an age where it is possible to be filmed or photographed at any time and by virtually anybody...smartphones, anyone?
I'm not worried, after all with smartphones that take rather good photo and video we were mostly there already. I'm more disturbed by the assault.
Hate to break it to you... you already are, by governments, stores, schools, etc every time you walk out in public.
Thing is, if you live in the western world, there's a chance that you're already being surveiled when you walk outside (and sometimes while you're at home.)
"Does it bother you to know that you may be filmed or photographed at any time and by virtually anybody?"
...do you think we don't have the tech to make practically invisible cameras? You wouldn't need something as obvious as Glass to "secretly spy" on people looking right at you. Any necklace or glasses, or button, will do the trick with a small enough camera.
It is going to be messy - and setting aside the individual right to privacy, what about corporate espionage? How are people going to protect their intellectual property? How are people going to exert any kind of control over images and recordings taken without their consent?
This seems likely to be the future we're heading towards. Everyone will be wearing a device that records everything they see, hear or even touch with their hands for almost their entire life (They'd probably start wearing it in primary school.)
