I have read several articles like this at this point and I think at some point my schadenfreude gland just gave out. I think I reflect the full gamut of the comments section on this one. Part of me is happy in spite, part of me is empathetic, and part of me is just plain sad.

I understand your sense of empathy, I think it’s a valuable piece of your humanity. But I think we need to divorce the idea of the hypothetical blank-slate mother and her children from the actual realized human known as Ivanka. In the former, of course we show compassion for a parent being

gilbertkittens, I get you. I have kids too. But let’s be blunt here. You and I are different kinds of parents than an Ivanka. Even if you are as wealthy as her or have as prestigious ownership and employment as her, as far as I know you are not going to become the de facto First Lady in a month.
