So any idea why they used Peter Gabriel’s cover of Heroes (which was recorded in 2010) as opposed to Bowie’s original, (which was recorded in 1977)?

The dubs on the Miyazaki movies are hit-and-miss, Princess Mononoke is especially bad. The subs are safer. The only worthwhile dub is Cowboy Bebop.  Even the Japanese director says he thinks the dub is better than the original.

Except that Vrv is US-only, while Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hidive are available in a lot of other countries.
