As a foodie parent, I’m deeply conflicted.

If they can behave reliably in a good restaurant, 99% of the time, then absolutely bring them. If they can’t be that reliable, take them to a kid-oriented place until they can be. And in a good restaurant, if the formerly reliable kid has a bad day, one has to be willing to get the food to go and leave.

I’m a parent of two kids who (now, in their teens) have fantastic restaurant manners. They have excellent restaurant manners, because we *taught* them how to behave in one, and brought them to *Kid friendly* restaurants, at kid-friendly times. Restaurants with training wheels - for heaven’s sake, Chili’s has devolved…

She does the regular biweekly cleaning - changing the sheets, mopping, dusting. I do the routine tidying, and the deep cleaning as it’s an extra charge (and also I’m too embarrassed to ask her to scrub out the refrigerator, for example).

I bring dinner leftovers, sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, sliced cucumbers... I’m kind of a snack rather than sandwich person, so I tend to pack a lunch with a lot of small things. Fruits and veggies and cheeses/meats - hors d’oeuvres, basically.

Agreed. I hate losing track of people I enjoy.

Because in a two-career family, that weekend time becomes critical to a) do the stuff that can’t be outsourced and b) spend time actually enjoying one’s family (or self).
