I too grew up with an 81' 2000. Originally that odd metallic brown, we resprayed it Guards Red when I started driving it in 89. Oddly, it really was one of the most reliable cars we’ve ever owned and it’s still alive today under the stewardship of a friend in SF.

This is a 5k car all day. We had an 81' Spider 2000 back when new. Still loved it despite one of the rear wheels flying off...at low speed. Fix that rust and your at $6500.

Just got a 13' ATS2.0t awd and am beyond happy with it. I do think some of these 2.0's are just duds from the factory or never received the proper ECU updates and plugs. There is a crapton of potential with these when built right. Look up the 400 and 500hp builds.
