I’d agree with you on a lot of series, but this one is just consistently surprising especially the Chimera Ant arc. You’d think you could predict a shounen title’s story beats and character quirks, but Togashi does a good job of keeping you on your feet.

After reading the manga and finishing the show: honestly the perfect series end was Madhouse’s interpretation of the anime. A promise of adventure after concluding a huge story arc (Chimera ant), saving a key character, and fulfilling one of the show’s biggest objectives.

The DeathNote movie should be enough to convince you this’ll probably fall flat, but if you need more incentive remember that Netflix stood behind Little Cuties.
