As I said in another comment, I actually think it is as simple as the fact that there is only 1 SKU for almost all Xbox games. I haven’t tried this, but the one game this isn’t true of is NBA 2K21. I would be shocked if you can play your Series X save on the Xbox One version or visa versa.

The PS5 can definitely read PS4 saves (I downloaded my Horizon Zero Dawn save and it was able to play it without hassle) but I do think because all PS5 versions are different SKUs on the backend it doesn't allow the PS5 Spider-Man to use the PS4 Spider-Man save (for example).
