Elle King's 'Ex's and Oh's' is the song I've probably listened to the most. I'm very happy it got a few Grammy nominations.
I have a gif of that shot, and I have to fight the urge to overuse it, as much as I'd like to.
I really loved Peyton Place and next time I'm visiting my parents, I should see if they still have my copy of it. It may have been a giant potboiler, but it was creepy and addictive in all the right places.
You know, I was actually in a bit of a sour mood yesterday (over one thing that was petty, and one thing that was less petty), but reading this completely brightened my morning. Always good to step back and remember all the good.
If only there was a great show to anchor the dancing.
I knew I was forgetting something, and The Crying Game was it. I wish that film has received more Oscar love. Rea, Davison, and Richardson were all terrific in it.
I just agree more and more. I found the film excruciating to sit through; it was like the Dangerous Minds of Oscar bait 'queer films,' except a million times stupider and more colorless. The fact the screenplay had been a work in progress since the mid-90s explains a lot and boggles the mind.
It was an abominable film, and I will never understand why it was so lauded by everybody.
I always knew you were great, but this comment really is something else. I love it. I love every bit of it.
I have not, but I'll keep it in mind.
Happy to help! :D
I'm happy to have finally given King a read and I don't feel like I've wasted anytime, even if it didn't work for me.
At this point, besides Dolores Claiborne, probably The Shining and maybe Cujo.
She should have put on Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
One thing that cracked me up with Salem's Lot was the number of times he used terms like 'f*g decorators.' I mean, yes, it was the 70s, but still (not that I think King is homophobic, but how unsubtle it is, like in many other books from that time period makes me laugh).
Given all the concerts, I decided to put those on hold. Plus, one of them fucked off back to Thailand.
Thrilled to hear the Nabokov novel was a great read. I've been meaning to reread Lolita, but I'll have to add it to this list. Similarly happy to hear you got some good vinyl yesterday. How does it sound?
Great Expectations (1998), while far from perfect), had a pretty good soundtrack too. I really liked the song, 'Life in Mono.'
Fair enough. I heard It was appropriately creepy given the clown and the kiddie gangbang or something similarly horrible.
