Given the open-ended nature of many of the storylines, I would be surprised if the writers didn't initially think the series would last for at least 13 episodes.

I wonder if this was the turning point where Moira Walley-Beckett and the writers heard the series was cancelled and they opted to try to cobble together an ending as quickly as possible?
