I don't know enough about the history of ballet to specifically comment on the styles (although the dancing did seem different from the ballet dancing I've seen in more contemporary pop culture, although how much of it is stylized for simplicity, I can't say), but the fact Shearer didn't look as thin as many female…
Didn't Roger Ebert give Knowing four stars? I'm presuming it was probably because there are few lines as funny as 'WE HAVE TO SAVE THE CHILDREN!' but too many films sadly don't commit to that kind of dialogue.
Between Suffragette, and the upcoming TV miniseries Codes of Conduct and Love, Nina, Helena Bonham Carter seems to be doing a pretty good job at reminding the world she is so much more than being a fixture in Tim Burton's films.
Glad to hear you are loving Where'd You Go, Bernadette? thus far. Wait until you get to the point where Bernadette rants about the layout of Seattle.
Man, I haven't seen State and Main since it was released on the big screen. I should rewatch it. Thanks for that trip down memory lane!
Books:
*Bastard Out of Carolina: Not only one of the best debut novels I've read, it's also one of the most painful, honest looks at childhood sexual abuse and poverty. It may be classified as a bildungsroman, but make no mistake: it's a horror novel, through and through. That said, it's what makes the book work so…
Ice Cream Planet's LiveJournal™:
*A pretty quiet week, all and all. The group projects are exhausting and I have a final presentation next Friday, so there is at least a few days to work out the kinks. Other that that, the highlight of my week was making a £25 donation to the Terrence Higgins Trust, which is the oldest…
Clearly said individuals never read the masterpiece that was The Flying Lesbian.
Normally, I'm one of those black-hearted individuals who isn't a fan of happy endings, but the happy ending in Carol (the novel) made me cheer.
That's not too far off…
It's on my list now! Thanks!
Oh, sure. I was being more facetious than anything else, but unless the reporting is Judith Miller levels of awfulness, the baby and the bath water approach bums me out.
You just make me more and more excited to read this. It's next on my list!
That's excellent to hear! Funny enough, The Ragged-Trouser Philanthropists, along with Walter Greenwood's Love on the Dole, are also on my reading list. I can't wait to get to those.
Yep, you can't find one thing, automatically means all other reporting is null and void in meaning!
Clearly they aren't pulling themselves up by their bootstraps! If they were an American conservative, they would have set up a GoFundMe page by now.
Plus, Brando in the film adaptation.
I can't wait. I need some old school English socialist fury.
I love these reviews so much. Keep up the excellent work.
