I have a similar commute due to traffic. I bought a 2013 Buick LaCrosse with 18k miles for 17 grand. Huge comfy seats, 300 HP, panoramic sunroof, and I get respectable gas mileage despite it being a 2 ton boat.

I might be in the minority, but I loved those crappy looking but supremely comfortable old GM interiors. My first car was a 95 Lumina with a bench seat. Most comfortable car I’ve ever sat in.
