Different driving style I guess. I’ve got 4wd with locker and 4wd suffices for just about anything you mentioned there. For deep snow I might use the locker but that’s a couple times a year.

I have a 740 NA wagon and a 740 turbo and while the turbo is noticeably faster it’s not fast by modern standards. The NA is a bit slow off the line but is totally competent at normal operating speeds. Better than I expected really.

Are there even 5 cars in that class in NA?

I like to choose my own gears and also when they change. I’ve never actually gone offroad with an auto though. At least not in a truck.

I have an echo hatch (yaris) as a commuter and it paid for itself in fuel savings in just over a year.

Wash up during the lulls is a great tactic- You’re just waiting around anyhow and for me at least, the less dishes to clean up after you’ve eaten, the faster you can get to your leisure time.
